We are discovering Canada's capital city: Ottawa. Staying in a cute motel with a pool! First impressions: people here seem to be much more friendly, helpful and open-minded than in Quebec...

Back from Ottawa. Had a great time and didn't want to leave. There is so much to do and see and although it is a small capital city (only 900,000 inhabitants) it is super CLEAN and people are friendly, helpful, polite and RELAXED!

By comparison, Montreal (where I work) is dirty and the people tend to be rude, discourteous and STRESSED.

Might have to go live in Ottawa .....

Ah...that eternal Franco - Anglo divide!!! Your FB photos looked beautiful. Indeed, Ottawa looks very appealing.

Sophie our cat has been doing poorly lately, & has lost weight. :( We took her to the vet this morning. Initial blood tests & a physical exam show nothing wrong (except, obviously, her weight loss). Vet is sending her blood out for thyroid testing - the results will take a few days. She gave her 2 injections : an antibiotic & a steroid, & some special care canned food. Sophie did like the food & ate some.

Now, we must wait. It's a process of elimination. X rays to look for a mass somewhere is the next step, if necessary. Cancer is always the usual suspect when all other tests reveal nothing. :eh

Keeping everything crossed for Sophie......she's the very first kitten I ever raised. We've had her for @ 12 years.

I went for a job interview today. A private high school contacted me out of the blue (probably through linkedin). Unfortunately I will not get the job even though they really liked me, because of stupid red tape, administrative stuff. I don't have a teaching permit (they can work around that), but on my work permit it says that I am unauthorized to work in a secondary or primary school or anywhere with children and in any capacity.

I called Immigration Canada who said that they can remove the clause. This involves extended medical tests/x-rays/psychological tests etc.... and huge fees. Since we have applied for permanent residency (no work permit needed thereafter) and it would take about the same time to have the clause changed on my work permit, I have no real choice but to sit tight and wait. Frustrating, but c'est la vie....

Anyway, I think it was the best interview I have ever done and was, just in that respect, an incredibly positive experience :t-
